A pre-school child's first check-up with us is complimentary — just mention it when you book.
No. 01 · The visit, step by step
Gently does it, from the first hello.
The whole point of the first visit is that your child wants to come back.
-
Say hello first
First visits are deliberately playful. Your child meets the team, gets comfortable in the chair, and we explain everything carefully in words they understand. The aim is a fun, positive experience — treated gently and with care.
-
A gentle look
We check your child's teeth and gums at their pace, keeping the visit light. Starting at around age three lets us spot small things while they're still small — and makes the dentist feel ordinary, which is the real win.
-
A polish, in their flavour
If your child is happy in the chair, we finish with a tooth polish using a flavoured paste they choose themselves. For most kids, it's the bit they talk about in the car.
-
Seal the grooves
Where it will genuinely help, we may suggest fissure sealants — a painless procedure where a plastic material seals the pits and fissures of the back teeth. Sealants are proven to reduce the risk of caries by 50%.
-
Home with a plan
Before you go, we'll help you choose a toothbrush and toothpaste that actually suit your child's age and teeth — plain guidance, no jargon.
No. 02 · Growing up here
They grow up here.
The same faces, every visit. We're a small practice on purpose. Familiar faces at every appointment means care that's genuinely individual — we know which child needs the slow explanation and which one wants to hold the little mirror.
Playing sport? Many dental injuries happen on the field, so we make custom-fitted mouthguards for children — more comfortable than the off-the-shelf kind, which means they actually get worn.
Lost in the toothbrush aisle? Ask us. We'll point you to a brush and toothpaste that suit your child, and skip the marketing.

Questions parents ask us.
If yours isn't here, call us — a two-minute chat usually settles it.
We recommend a first dental examination at around age three. It's a short, playful visit — and for pre-school aged children, that first check-up is complimentary.
Mostly, we make it fun. Your child meets the team, has a ride in the chair, and we have a gentle look at their teeth and gums, explaining each step in words they understand. If they're happy, we can finish with a polish in a flavour they pick. The goal is simple: a child who's happy to come back.
A protective plastic material that seals the pits and fissures — the grooves — of the back teeth, where decay often starts. The procedure is painless, and sealants are proven to reduce the risk of caries by 50%. We'll tell you honestly whether they'd help your child.
Gently, and at their pace. We're a small practice, so your child sees the same familiar faces each visit, and check-ups are done in a playful way — we explain each step before we do it. If a visit needs to stay short, that's fine; a calm first experience matters more than a complete one.
Yes — for pre-school aged children, the first dental check-up with us is complimentary. Just mention it when you book online or call us on (03) 9560 2702.
If they play contact sport, it's worth a conversation. Many dental injuries happen during sport, and we recommend custom-made mouthguards for children — they're more comfortable than off-the-shelf ones, so kids are far more likely to actually wear them.
